How to obtain EDGE certification in SHIFA projects?
SHIFA (Strengthening Health Infrastructure for All) is an EU/IPA-funded health infrastructure programme run by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Türkiye and the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB). In the tenders, obtaining EDGE certification for the building is the contractor's responsibility.

What is EDGE? →EDGE certification takes two parties: one who prepares and one who approves.
It's like getting a driving licence. The driving school prepares you, but the licence isn't issued by the school; it's issued by the examiner. EDGE works the same way:
- Consultant (EDGE Expert) = driving school. Prepares the project and collects the documents.
- Auditor (EDGE Auditor) = examiner. Checks the building and the documents and gives the certification body a "compliant" report. No certificate is issued without the auditor's signature.
- Approved EDGE Auditor = the most experienced examiner. An auditor whose audits have been reviewed by the certification body (GBCI) and approved as "this auditor's work is reliable". This title is earned not through a course but through successfully completed audits. Not required for certification — any EDGE Auditor can audit; but a new auditor's files are reviewed longer at GBCI and may be sent back. An approved auditor's file is considered reliable; the certificate comes out faster and more smoothly. In other words, Approved is not a requirement but an extra assurance.
Why it matters: In the market, quotes often cover consulting only; the audit comes up later as a separate item. This means the price you compare at the start is not the real total cost.

Our team's audit credentials: Auditors who pass the EDGE Auditor training and exam sign a contract with GBCI and start auditing; every project they submit is reviewed by GBCI for quality. An auditor who meets GBCI's quality expectations is granted "Approved" EDGE Auditor status. In other words, this title is earned not through training but through completed audits verified by GBCI; few auditors in Türkiye hold this status.

Short answers
How long does EDGE certification take?
3–6 months from design stage to final certificate, depending on project scale and document readiness. A preliminary (design) certificate can be obtained in about 4 weeks.
How much does EDGE certification cost?
There are three items: the certification body (GBCI/SGS) fee, the EDGE Auditor audit fee and consulting. For a small health centre, the total cost is far below LEED. The cost is clarified in a one-to-one discussion based on your project details.
Construction has started — can we still get it?
Yes. If material and equipment choices have not yet been finalised, certification can start even at the shell construction stage. The earlier, the fewer the revisions.
